Imagine it’s 7:30am and you’re driving to work. It’s a beautiful day – the sky is blue, the birds are singing. Life couldn’t be better. But then you turn a corner and the sun’s glare hits you square in the eyes, causing you to go momentarily blind.
In situations like these, you only have a few seconds to decide on the best course of action. So we’re here to tell you what not to do if you’re dazzled by the sun while driving…
Do not slow down
Under no circumstances should you put your foot on the brakes. The Titanic learned this lesson the hard way when it encountered an iceberg.
It’s unlikely you’ll ever find yourself facing a giant block of ice on Maltese roads. But you there could be other objects in your way, such as a container. So instead of slowing down, you should increase speed to more easily smash through any obstacles, including but by no means limited to a container.
Do not wear sunglasses
Not a lot of people know this, but it’s actually illegal to wear sunglasses while driving in Malta. The reason is because not everyone looks good in shades, and the police want to avoid having unfashionable people on the roads. However, like most laws in Malta, it’s rarely enforced.
Instead, take your hands off the steering wheel and use them to shield your eyes from the sun’s glare. Hopefully, you’ll veer out of the way of whatever is in front of you, like a container.
Do not be atheist
We know what you’re thinking – what does my religion or lack thereof have anything to do with driving?
A lot, actually, as any Maltese person who has rosary beads hanging from their rearview mirror will tell you.
If you don’t believe in God, you won’t be able to call on the Madonna Tal-Grazzja to miraculously save you from smashing right into something like a container.
You think Richard Dawkins will intervene to stop your death by container? Think again, non-believing scum.
