Bis-Serjetà has been bringing you your daily dose of serious news for the past 13 years (on and off). But its continued existence isn’t assured unless our fans support us on Patreon. Here are six reasons why would should become a patron…
1. You value my work
I don’t want to blow my own trumpet, but I get the feeling that people appreciate what I do. Having said that, if you consider yourself a fan, you are part of a small group in a tiny country, which makes your support extra crucial to the survival of this thing I started way back in 2011. Don’t assume someone else will do it, because there aren’t that many of you.
The more I have to rely on other sources of income, the less time I have for writing stories and dicking about on Photoshop to make you laugh. You’ve probably noticed I’ve been very productive so far this year, and that’s because I made the conscious decision to try giving Bis-Serjetà my full attention. Whether or not that continues is up to you.
2. No one else will support it
Bis-Serjetà is completely independent. It isn’t owned by a private company, political party or wealthy sugar daddy/mama (having said that, if you are a wealthy sugar mama, get in touch). Most of the time, it’s just me and my laptop.
In an ideal world, I’d generate funds through advertising instead of putting the burden on followers, but because what I do can be controversial, most businesses just aren’t willing to take a chance on me. And even when a business is interested in collaborating, it’s hard to produce content that remains true to Bis-Serjetà’s voice while giving a return on investment to said business. By its nature, satire isn’t exactly compatible with capitalism.
3. You’ll see everything I create
The Facebook algorithm has a habit of throttling Bis-Serjetà posts, especially if the subject matter is somewhat controversial (but also sometimes completely randomly). This means there are probably posts that you’ve never seen.
On Patreon, you’ll get a notification each time I post something new, especially if you download the app.
That’s only if you become a paid member of course. You don’t get access to articles if you only join as a free member.
4. More and better content
Having more funds will allow me to hire actors, videographers and additional writers. Right now, whenever I make a video, I write, set up, film and edit everything myself, which is fun, but also time-consuming and limiting because I can only do so much.
5. It annoys certain people
There are several people who would love it if Bis-Serjetà ceased to exist, chief among them government trolls, far-right incels and religious lunatics. As you’re reading this, they’re probably on the Facebook post typing comments like ‘Get a real job’ and ‘You expect people to pay for this crap?’ while drooling all over their keyboards.
By supporting me financially and ensuring I can continue doing this, you’ll be annoying the shit out of them. And isn’t that a good enough reason by itself?
6. It’s pretty cheap, in my opinion
You can support me for the price of a coffee and a couple of pastizzi a month. Personally, I think this is good value for money for something that’s totally unique in Malta.
I’ll end on this message that I received recently, the kind of message that keeps me going when I’m feeling like packing it all in…
