LESA warden says she’s never felt so alive

A LESA warden has told Bis-Serjetà that the face-mask law introduced last week has led to her feeling more alive than ever before.

As of last week, the wearing of face masks became mandatory in all public places, both indoors and outdoors, with fines of up to €200 being handed to people caught breaking the law. However, there has been some confusion as to when masks can be removed.

“When I heard the government was introducing a vague new law that we could interpret as we please, it felt like Christmas had come early. Handing out fines for traffic contraventions is thrilling and all, but this Covid-19 situation is something else,” said warden Catherine Xuereb, who has been in the job for three years.

Xuereb said that since the law was introduced, she has already fined over 100 people.

“It’s been amazing. At LESA, we have a little competition going between us to see who can hand out the most ridiculous fines. Yesterday, I hid in a bush near a bus stop, and pounced on someone for taking off one side of his mask to scratch his face for five seconds.

“And the day before, I followed a jogger down a quiet country road in my car – keeping eye contact the whole time – and got him the moment he ran out of breath. Honestly, I’m so grateful for this pandemic because I’ve never felt so alive.”
