Malta’s number one journalist Karl Stennienibarra says he can be bribed with just one bag of Haribo sweets.
Earlier today, The Times reported that lawyers for Yorgen Fenech attempted to give journalist Ivan Martin several €500 notes in exchange for more favourable coverage of their client.
“As Bis-Serjetà readers know, I am a man of unquestionable integrity. However, I am only human – or at least I pretend to be so as not to scare you mortals,” Stennienibarra told Bis-Serjetà.
“With that in mind, if Fenech’s lawyers were to meet me at a cafe, and surreptitiously slide over a bag of Haribo Star Mix, I would find it incredibly difficult to turn it down.
“And if Mr Fenech – with his influence and resources – could make it so there are more of the fried-egg-shaped sweets in the bag, then I would have no choice but to become yet another pillar of society whom he has bought and paid for.”
Stennienibarra added that Fenech’s lawyers had made a mistake by offering cash to Martin.
“I happen to know he’s a sucker for peanut M&Ms. He would’ve snatched them out of the lawyer’s hand like a junkie and written anything he wanted.”
