Magistrate Joe Mifsud joins X Factor judges panel

Magistrate Joe Mifsud has been announced as a new judge on the next season of X Factor Malta.

Dr Mifsud, who was appointed as a magistrate in 2015, will be joining Howard Keith, Ira Losco, Ray Mercieca and Alex Alden, who earlier today said they were looking forward to discovering Malta’s next big Eurovision disappointment.

“This is a dream come true for me,” said Dr Mifsud, who has also presented various TV and radio shows for people with an IQ of a mentally challenged frog.

“While being a magistrate is certainly rewarding, my real passion has always been music. Well, at least music released before 1995,” added Mifsud, who a few months ago played Mike Spiteri’s song ‘Fejn Thobb Il-Qalb’ on his iPad before delivering a verdict.

The magistrate had justified his actions by arguing that it was in a Gozo courtroom, “where you can pretty much do anything you want. Also it’s a banging tune.”

Asked what kind of artists he was likely to favour, Dr Mifsud replied that he believed it was high time the power ballad made a comeback.

“It’s been too long since the charts last featured a 10-minute-long major pentatonic guitar solo,” he said.

Professional Simon Cowell wannabe Howard Keith said he was looking forward to what Dr Mifsud could bring to the show.

“I’m looking forward to him telling all the female singers they should sound more like Mary Rose Mallia,” he said.
