Jason Azzopardi has promised he will never allow himself to get caught being corrupt again.
The Nationalist MP has been under fire in recent days, after it was revealed he had accepted free accommodation in Tel Aviv from the Tumas Group, while also reportedly soliciting other freebies over the years.
“I now recognise that what I did was wrong, and would like to sincerely apologise. I should never have put myself in a position to get caught accepting gifts from prominent businessmen,” Azzopardi told journalists while reading from a prepared statement.
“The next time I want to receive a favour from someone like Ray Fenech, I will insist that it takes the form of hard cash, sent straight to a hidden account in the British Virgin Isles.”
Azzopardi added that he would also be applying the same level of discretion to his extramarital affairs.
“No more taking my mistresses abroad with me under the pretence of visiting dying uncles and Christ’s tomb. From now on, it’s two-star hotels in Buġibba.”
