‘Murder, moi?’ asks Chris Cardona

Karl Stennienibarra

Chris Cardona has expressed bafflement at the idea he could be capable of murder.

The former economy minister has been namedropped by Vince Muscat ‘il-Koħħu’ in connection with a plot to kill Daphne Caruana Galizia in 2015.

“Murder, moi? Why, never in my life have I heard such a preposterous notion!” Cardona told Bis-Serjetà.

“When have I ever done anything I suggest I could be involved in any form of criminal activity? It baffles me that there are people out there who could even remotely entertain the idea that I am guilty of such a heinous crime.”

Cardona has repeatedly insisted the claim is part of an attempt to frame him for Caruana Galizia’s murder.

“This attempt to sully my good name is destined to fail, because when you try and frame someone, the person you are trying to implicate should not be above suspicion. And I think we can all agree that I had absolutely no means, motive or opportunity to harm the good journalist from Bidnija – God rest her soul – such is my impeccable character.”

At the time of writing, Cardona had just stepped into Stables Bar in Valletta to have a quiet drink with other “impeccable characters.”
