Ian Borg to send free axe to every household in Malta

Karl Stennienibarra

Infrastructure Minister Ian Borg has launched a new initiative whereby each household in Malta will receive a free axe with which to chop down trees.

The initiative comes a day after Aaron Farrugia announced that every household would be receiving a packet of wild-flower seeds.

“People often come up to me and tell me they want to hack down a tree in the countryside so that Infrastructure Malta can pass a road through there instead, but they don’t have the right tools for the job. Now, with these sharp, shiny axes, every Maltese family can contribute to the de-wilding of our country,” Borg said, before using one of the axes to chop down a nearby Aleppo pine.

The minister added that the axes could also be used on wild flowers, bushes, and Moviment Graffitti members.

“March to Dingli! Leave none alive!”

The Infrastructure Ministry is also working on a scheme in which people who wanted to buy industrial tree-felling equipment, such as chainsaws and log cutters, would receive a grant.
