A man who has always voted for the Nationalist Party has decided to vote for the Nationalist Party in next week’s general election.
Benjamin Bardon-Francalanza, a 36-year-old lawyer from Sliema, says his decision follows weeks of reflection and research.
“I have carefully weighed up all the options, read the first pages of both PN and Labour’s manifestos from beginning to end and followed their respective campaigns intently when they happen to pop up on my newsfeed, and have come to the reasoned conclusion that it is my moral duty to vote for PN,” said Mr Bardon-Francalanza, who voted for PN in 2004, 2008, 2013 and 2017 and comes from a staunch PN-supporting family.
Mr Bardon-Francalanza said rule of law was the biggest factor influencing his decision.
“If PN are elected, I’m adamant that corruption will become a distant memory. After all, everyone knows that all the sleaze and cronyism started under Joseph Muscat. I’m sure every appointment under PN will be based solely on merit. And could you imagine someone like Jason Azzopardi being corrupt after spending the past few years being an anti-corruption figurehead? I certainly can’t.”
The lawyer added that he believed Bernard Grech would make a better prime minister than Robert Abela.
“Bernard reminds me of Abraham Lincoln, Mahatma Gandhi, Barack Obama and Nelson Mandela, in that like them, he is also a man.”
Regardless, he insisted that his support for PN was not automatic.
“My family’s law firm made hundreds of thousands of euros from government contracts under Gonzi. If PN were to be elected and we didn’t start winning those tenders again, I could, by sheer coincidence, be tempted to vote for Labour in 2027,” he said.
