‘Why does no one believe our environmental pledges?’ asks confused Aaron Farrugia

A bewildered Aaron Farrugia has asked why so many people are reluctant to believe Labour’s environmental pledges.

Several videos released by the Labour Party on its own Facebook pages extolling its own environmental credentials and future plans should it be re-elected have been met with skeptical comments and outright riducule.

“I just don’t get it. Labour has done wonders for the environment since it was elected. Malta has never been greener. Under PN, there wasn’t a single tree in Malta. Buskett? It was made up entirely of fake plastic trees and mechanical birds. Then Labour got elected and we transformed the country into an oasis. If Sir David Attenborough came here, he’d have a heart attack from seeing all the nature around him,” the Environment and Planning Minister said.

“Do people not remember our ‘So the environment truly becomes a priority’ billboard from 2013? Would a billboard lie to you?” he asked.

Meanwhile, Labour’s flagship environmental proposal for the forthcoming legislature is a €700 million fund to create green spaces in every town in the country.

“What do you mean, ‘where are we going to fit these new green spaces’? What a ridiculous question. There will be plenty of room for a potted plant on top of every Joseph Portelli mega-apartment block,” Farrugia insisted.

The Minister added that if people did not think Malta was green enough, they only had themselves to blame.

“We sent you all packets of seeds last year. It’s not our fault if you didn’t bother to plant them.”
