Nation hoping for last-minute scandal to spice up dull-as-fuck election campaign

Karl Stennienibarra

The people of Malta are desperately hoping that the two main parties have been holding back a major scandal that would completely destroy the other’s chances of being elected.

With just four days to go until the nation goes to the polls, many are banking on an explosive ending to liven up an otherwise dull and predictable campaign.

“I was hoping that PN were keeping something up their sleeve related to Daphne’s murder or something about Joseph Muscat, but I’m starting to think they’ve used everything they have. Come on Jason, prove me wrong and drop a bombshell.” – Nicholas Deguara, 29, Rabat.

“While I appreciate [Times of Malta journalist] Jacob Borg’s continued efforts to fuck up Robert Abela with revelations about his dodgy dealings with the Maltese mafia and Russian golden-passport buyers, we’ve been reading stories like this, and much worse, for the past nine years. Get back to me when you have a story about Abela loaning the Maksars the money to buy the bomb that killed Daphne.” – Sarah Buhagiar, 34, Mellieha.

“Even though he’s the underdog, at this point I’ll even take something that destroys Bernard Grech. I don’t know, like a video of him pissing on Eddie Fenech Adami and then yelling at him for wetting himself, or something.” – Samuel Cuschieri, 62, San Gwann.

“I think Repubblika should hold a seance to summon Daphne’s ghost and ask her who murdered her. But then again she’d probably just pass snide comments about what people are wearing.” – Angela Caruana, 47, Mosta.

“Honestly a couple of stray Russian missiles falling on both parties’ final mass meetings would be the best possible ending to the campaign.” – Robert Grech, 25, Iklin.
