A man has taken the decision to ignore his GP’s advice on how to treat his condition before she finished speaking.

Brian Caruana, 23, from Mosta, visited Dr Maria Mifsud at her clinic after suffering from chest pain.
After diagnosing the illness as acid reflux, Dr Grech put Mr Caruana on a course of antacids, while also recommending he avoid certain foods.
“It was at that point that I thought, ‘Here we go – she’s probably going to mention all the foods I enjoy’,” Caruana said.
“Tomatoes or tomato-based products – yup. Bread – yup. Cheese – yup. Spicy food – yup. Basically 50 percent of my diet.”
Caruana added that before Dr Grech had continued with “coffee, chocolate and alcohol”, he had already decided to disregard her advice.
“No coffee or alcohol? Does she want me to go on a killing spree before blowing my brains out? No, for the sake of my work colleagues I’ll keep my stomach as an acid bath.”
When contacted for comment, Dr Grech said:
“He’ll probably only remember to take the tablets for a couple of days too. That’s fine – idiots like him keep me in business,” she said.

Why is this article locked?
After more than 10 years of providing free content, we’ve decided to make some articles available only to our subscribers on Patreon – a funding site for artists, creators and serious journalists – for the first 24 hours after they’re published.
Coming up with ideas and writing articles takes time and effort, and since Bis-Serjetà’s audience is pretty niche and finding companies to sponsor our often-controversial content is hard, we need you and all our regular readers to contribute so that we can continue bringing you the most serious news in Malta.
Accessing the articles only costs €3 a month (more would be greatly appreciated, but every little helps) and it costs even less if you choose an annual subscription. It only takes two minutes to sign up.
Already a patron? Just log in to Patreon by clicking the orange ‘Become a Patreon’ button above or below. You may have to go through a few hoops the first time, but then you can stay signed in. If you encounter any difficulties, please send us a message on the Facebook page. [/ppp_non_patron_only]
