A Maltese motorist who is currently holding up a bus in traffic says he will only consider using buses when they stop getting stuck in traffic.
George Camilleri, 42, from Qormi, is stuck in front of the 110 bus carrying 30 people on the Marsa-Hamrun bypass.
“This is unbearable. I haven’t moved an inch in over 10 minutes and I’m going to be late for an appointment,” Camilleri told Bis-Serjetà through the window of his car.
“I really wish I could catch a bus instead, but the public transport system is so terrible.”
Asked why he thought the system was terrible, Camilleri replied: “Well, it’s mainly because the buses get stuck in traffic. If there was less traffic, I’d definitely consider catching the bus. But as you can see, the bus behind me is stuck in traffic.
“Mind you, even if there wasn’t so much congestion, the nearest bus stop to my house is a seven-minute walk away, so I’d have to drive to it anyway.”
Fellow motorist Glenn Abela, who was also blocking a bus further down the road, disagreed that cars were to blame for the inefficient public transport system.
“It’s definitely the 435 buses that are causing all this traffic, and not the 385,000 cars that mostly have only one person in them,” he said.
