Met Office issues severe ‘sensationalist weather reports’ warning

Karl Stennienibarra

The Meteorological Office at Malta International Airport has issued a severe ‘sensationalist weather reports’ warning for the next 24 hours.

“An area of low page views coming from newsrooms across the island will combine with over-the-top posts by the Malta Weather Facebook page to create severe clickbaity predictions of near-apocalyptic conditions over the next few hours,” the Met Office said on its website.

It also warned there was a high risk that Facebook newsfeeds would be flooded with dramatic, heavily edited images of menacing black clouds taken during previous storms.

“We strongly advise people to chill the fuck out and remember this is completely normal weather for this time of year,” the warning concluded.
