Over the past year, people have become increasingly wary of a social-media-savvy child who they believe wields far too much power.
But enough about Donald Trump.
As an insecure man, your reaction to young environmental campaigner Greta Thunberg is probably mocking, disdainful and patronising. How dare a teenager be anxious about the precarious future of the planet she lives on?!
But because you have the self-awareness of a particularly un-self-aware snail, you might not know why you feel this way. As always, Bis-Serjetà is here to help…
So why does Greta make me feel uncomfortable?
Greta triggers many of your prejudices. She’s young, female, outspoken, foreign, and upfront about her autism. It’s a good thing she isn’t gay, transgender, black or Muslim, otherwise your head would’ve exploded by now.
She’s also getting a lot of attention – something you’re very much starved of. In fact, the only person who likes your posts on Facebook is a homeless-looking anti-vaxxer who believes the earth is flat and says the word ‘globalist’ a lot (without noting the irony, of course). And the last time a woman spoke to you, it was an ATM machine asking for your PIN number.
Why do I keep posting articles and comments about Greta?
Because you obviously don’t care about her. As everyone knows, when you don’t care about someone you incessantly post comments on all the news sites saying Greta is a puppet for the liberal elite deep state or some shit like that. And she’s ugly too. Comedy gold.
What can I do if I want to stop feeling this way?
It might be best if you stopped parroting every half-baked argument you hear on right-wing media. But then again, why would billionaire media barons with shares in the fossil fuel industry want to delegitimise a charismatic 16-year-old girl who wants to bring about a green revolution? Beats us.
But I’m a woman and I still don’t like Greta Thunberg. She looks so creepy!
Go jump into a volcano, Karen.
