Malta’s business class has decided not to mirror Prime Minister Robert Abela and carry out a reshuffle, opting instead to retain the same interests.
Big Business is the top-most level of Malta’s political system, with the elected government acting to safeguard its interests at all costs.
“After a lot of internal debate, we decided that, just because our prize puppet Joseph Muscat resigned, that doesn’t mean we have to make any changes to the set of businessmen pulling the strings,” said Big Business spokesman Sandro Chetcuti, following a meeting this weekend at Portomaso Tower.
“At one point we contemplated swapping the construction industry for the arts, but then we realised we were off our tits on…lobster. That stuff really goes to your head if you eat too much,” he added.
As a result of the decision, businesses like Silvio Debono’s DB Group, J. Portelli Projects, and MIDI will carry on calling the shots.
“Just like Robert Abela, we too desire continuity above all else,” Chetcuti said.
The only significant change is the removal of Yorgen Fenech, although his family’s business, Tumas Group, will remain at the table.
“One bad apple shouldn’t spoil a basket of slightly less bad apples,” Chetcuti insisted.
