Prime Minister Robert Abela has healed a man who was previously paralysed from the neck down during a walkabout in Valletta earlier today, according to a report by ONE News.
Abela was walking through Republic Street this afternoon, greeting shop owners and members of the public when, according to the report, a man in a wheelchair called out to the Prime Minister and attempted to approach him.
While Abela’s security detail did not allow the man to come near him at first, the Prime Minister ordered them to let him through.
Upon approaching Abela, the man, 35-year-old Thomas Calleja from Kappara, said:
“Onorevoli, I’ve come before you today to ask you to forgive me for the bad things I’ve done throughout my life.”
Abela is reported to have told Calleja, who he referred to as ‘my son’, that his sins were forgiven.
At that point, two lawyers who had allegedly just left court heard what Abela had just said, and remarked: “That’s ridiculous, only the President can grant a pardon. It’s the law!”, to which Abela is said to have replied:
“Why are you thinking these things? Because you’re Nationalists? Which is easier: to say to this paralysed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, leave your wheelchair and walk’? I want you to know that I have given myself the constitutional authority to forgive sins, għax Laburist u nagħmel liż-żobb irrid.”
He then turned back to Calleja and repeated his command for him to walk, upon which the paraplegic slowly stood up, to the amazement of the gathered crowd.
Just as they had done when he copulated with wife Lydia Abela on his Castille office desk, they chanted, “Robert tagħna il-mexxej! Allelulja!”
As pictured in the image above, the Prime Minister is then reported to have healed a dog of arthritis.
The ONE News report described the event as Abela’s first miracle in office, with Education Minister Owen Bonnici commenting:
“He is the Messiah! I should know, I’ve followed a few.”
When contacted, the Office of the Prime Minister refused to comment on the fact the healed man looked a lot like Silvio Schembri wearing a fake beard.
Bis-Serjetà also got in touch with Robert Abela’s mother to ask what she made of the ‘miracle’.
“He’s not the Messiah. He’s a very naughty boy!” she said.
