A petition has been launched demanding that Malta’s Eurovision entries go back to being shit, after an actually-pretty-alright song was chosen for the second year running.
Malta’s entry for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in the Netherlands, entitled ‘All My Love’ and sung by X Factor Malta winner Destiny, was unveiled yesterday. Similarly to Michela Pace’s song ‘Chameleon’ last year, it was well-received by the Maltese public and Eurovision websites.
However, not everyone is happy with the improvement in quality, with an online petition being launched by an uneasy alliance of snarky people who want to make fun of Eurovision, and mediocre singers who want to have a shot at representing Malta again.
“We the undersigned call on the Maltese government to intervene and restore the song selection process to the glorious cringefest it used to be,” the petition’s creator’s implored.
“Having a song and accompanying music video with high production values, sung by genuinely talented young people, satisfies absolutely no one. Not least because – even with our newfound emphasis on quality – we’re still going to get screwed over by neighbour voting.
“In short – bring back songs that sound 20 years out of date. Bring back terrible fashion sense. Bring back J Anvil.”
