Every street in Malta will be named after Professor Charmaine Gauci, the Superintendent for Public Health, once the Covid-19 crisis subsides, Bis-Serjetà can reveal.
Over the past few weeks, Prof. Gauci has been updating the public daily on the latest developments related to Covid-19, while also being in charge of formulating strategies to contain the virus. She has been widely praised for her calm, reassuring demeanour.
“When all this blows over, we plan to rename all streets after Prof. Gauci because of how chill she is. She could come out and say, “The dead are now rising and eating the living,” and people would be like “Well, they seem to have it all under control,” a government source said.
“Admittedly, having all the streets with the same name will be a bit confusing. But at least every time someone drives down Professor Charmaine Gauci Avenue, parks on Professor Charmaine Gauci Street, and walks into Sqaq Il-Professur Charmaine Gauci, they’ll be reminded of her invaluable service to the country, even if they have no idea whether they’re in the right place.
Meanwhile, plans to place a statue of Prof. Gauci in Valletta have been dismissed.
“There would probably be people who treat it as a shrine and touch it to be cured of diseases, so obviously that wouldn’t be ideal,” the source said.
