Emotional Maltese man speaks out against turtle migration

Karl Stennienibarra

An emotional, powerful, and impassioned video made by a Maltese man after his parents were allegedly attacked by a sea turtle has gone viral.

The video – made by a man named Brian Fenech – comes in the wake of several turtles laying their eggs on Maltese beaches in recent weeks.

According to Fenech, his father was out fishing on his boat off the coast of Buġibba, when the turtle leapt out of the sea and “attacked him.”

“Enough is enough. We can’t go on like this. These reptiles are taking over. They swim up to our beaches, coincidentally already pregnant, lay their eggs, which are given special treatment until they hatch – protective plastic fence and everything – then they hatch and swim off into our Maltese waters,” a visibly angry Fenech said.

“Dawn il-liba fkieren m’għandniex bżonnhom [we don’t need these fucking turtles]. It’s not safe anymore. What if your child is a jellyfish, and the turtles eat him?” he asked.

Turning increasingly aggressive, Fenech continued that if a turtle so much as looked at his my family again, even marine biologist Alan Deidun wouldn’t be able to stop me.

“I don’t give a fuck. I’ll grab those baby turtles and put them all in a blender,” he proclaimed.

The video gained 100,000 views, 535,600 impressions, 2,000 shares, 1,269 comments, 728 likes, 551 angry faces, 300 hearts, 266 surprised faces, 72 laughing faces and 50 sad faces, before being bravely deleted.

At the time of writing, it had emerged that the turtle in question had merely swam past Fenech’s father’s boat.

What do you think of Brian Fenech’s emotional speech? Should baby turtles be put in a blender?
