Adrian Delia is intentionally trying to catch Covid-19, in an attempt to win sympathy votes in the upcoming PN leadership election.
Despite being the incumbent leader of the opposition, Delia is being outperformed in the polls by his opponent, Bernard Grech. Grech is seen by many as being more of a unifying candidate than the divisive Delia.
A source close to Delia said he was now taking desperate measures to increase his chances of staying on as leader after the October 3rd election.
“Adrian believes that, at this stage, the only way he’ll manage to win the leadership is if the tesserati feel sorry for him. And what better way to make people pity you than to test positive for Covid-19?” the source told Bis-Serjetà.
“So whenever he hears someone about to sneeze, he asks if they could aim it at his face. And when he’s at a bar, which is often, he licks everyone’s glass when they aren’t looking.”
The source added that, after hearing that children were adept at spreading the virus, Delia had made plans to visit several schools in the run-up to the election.
“His own kids want nothing to do with him, so he has to use other people’s.”
According to the source, once Delia tests positive, he will send close ally Clyde Puli to PN clubs to campaign with the slogan, “Miskin, ivvutawlu jaħasra – dak marid ta” (“Vote for the poor guy – he’s ill, you know”).
“We tried getting him to come up with some actual policies to revitalise the party, but he said that would be far too much work.”
