Ali Bubaker, the Borat rip-off created by Gianni Zammit, is confirmed to have been killed in a raid by US special forces in Syria.
Tajikistani national Bubaker has been on America’s most-wanted list since he was created in the 90s. His accent, mannerisms, backstory and jokes were stolen wholesale from British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen’s Kazakhstani character Borat Sagdiyev.
Following the September 11 attacks, Bubaker went into hiding, reportedly hopping from one Middle Eastern country to another, until the CIA finally tracked him down to a safe house in northern Syria’s Idlib province.
The night-time raid was carried out by US Navy SEALS, who stormed Bubaker’s compound.
According to reports, Bubaker pleaded with the American soldiers, insisting he was not the product of plagiarism, while repeatedly saying “very nice” and “yakshemash”.
Upon seeing that they were not convinced, he blew himself up with a suicide vest.
“The United States of America takes intellectual property theft very seriously, so it is with great pleasure that we can confirm that Ali Bubaker was killed in last night’s raid,” a White House spokesperson said during a press briefing this morning.
“After oil, protecting the artistic copyright of our allies is the next biggest priority for the US military,” she added.
In a grainy video, Gianni Zammit vowed to take revenge on America.
“I’ve actually been working on a brand new, completely original character – a flamboyantly gay German fashion reporter called Hugo,” he said.
