Cabinet to discuss epidemic of outspoken foreign mums

A report on the recent epidemic of outspoken foreign mothers in Malta will be discussed by Cabinet today.

The report was drawn up by the Home Affairs Ministry in the wake of several expat mums calling on their children’s schools to change their policies and improve their facilities in the interest of their pupils’ health, safety and self-expression.

“The foreign mums tend to post their grievances on Facebook groups like The Salott and Expats Malta. These are then picked up by the media, who highlight the situation so much that we have to do something about it,” Home Affairs Minister Michael Farrugia told Bis-Serjetà.

“I just don’t understand why these non-Maltese mums are so concerned about their children’s well-being,” he added.

While the report has not been made available to the public, sources within the ministry have said that one of the solutions mentioned could be to convince children to tell their mums to go back to their country because they were embarrassing them.

“This is an issue of education. We need to make sure foreign nationals understand the Maltese concept of ‘U ijja, mhux xorta?’ Otherwise they’ll never integrate properly,” Farrugia said.

“I blame Appelgren to be honest,” Environment Minister José Herrera said.
