Prime Minister Robert Abela is insisting he does not know anyone by the name of Chris Cardona.
Cardona – the Minister for the Economy under previous prime minister Joseph Muscat – was this week further implicated in the commissioning of the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia by middleman Melvin Theuma, who received a pardon on the condition that his testimony was true.
Until today, the government had not issued a statement on Theuma’s claims.
“Will you all please stop asking me to comment about this Chris Cardona guy? I’ve never heard of him,” Abela told Bis-Serjetà.
“Honestly, I haven’t a clue who he is. Is he a Eurovision singer? I’ve never watched Eurovision because it’s silly,” the Prime Minister added, despite the fact that Cardona – while no longer an MP – is the deputy leader of the Labour Party.
“Ah, I see why people are confused. That’s Christian Cardona. Totally different guy. If the police investigated him, as several Labour haters are demanding, they’d find he was a really nice man who makes great cupcakes.”
Abela said he also didn’t know anything about the murder trial itself.
“To tell you the truth, I haven’t been following that much because I never read Caruana Galizia’s blog. I get that her murder was terrible, but I have better things to do than obsessively follow all the sordid details.
“Anyway, please stop asking me about Chris Cardona, and about people called Joseph, Konrad and Keith. For the last time, I don’t know any of them. Why won’t you all just let me be Prime Minister in peace?”
