Christmas just not the same without Yorgen Fenech dressed as Santa handing out presents, politicians agree

Christmas Day is not the same without the annual tradition of Yorgen Fenech handing out expensive gifts while dressed as Santa Claus, Maltese politicians have told Bis-Serjetà.

Before Fenech was arrested last November, politicians, as well as high-ranking members of the police force and judiciary, would gather at the tycoon’s farm in Żebbuġ early on Christmas morning after attending midnight mass.

There, they would receive gifts of expensive watches, jewellery, fine wines and other luxury items from Fenech, who would be dressed as Father Christmas.

But for the second Christmas in a row, ministers and other MPs have had to make other plans.

“Lunch with the family is great and everything, but Christmas Day just isn’t the same without sitting on Yorgen Claus’s lap and seeing what he got me. In 2018 he got me a signed photo of Joseph Muscat. Can you imagine how overjoyed I was?” said a dejected Edward Zammit Lewis.

“I was really hoping he’d be out on bail this year. I’m down to my last bottle of Petrus,” said Muscat himself.

“My boyfriend tries his best but he just can’t match the expensive outfits and jewellery Yorgen Claus used to get me. It’s a less wonderful time of the year without him and his massive sack full of goodies,” a similarly despondent Rosianne Cutajar agreed.
