Donald Trump has expressed an interest in purchasing Malta, with the intention of using it as a landfill site.
The US President-elect has been making advances on several sovereign territories in recent weeks, including Canada, Greenland and Panama.
Writing on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said the outgoing administration had allowed mountains of rubbish to accumulate in American cities.
