Members of the Labour Party have uncovered ‘evidence’ that Instagram is owned by the Nationalist Party, after it deleted the accounts of Joseph Muscat’s twin daughters.
The social media site’s rules state that you must be 13 or older to create an account. While Muscat’s daughters are 12, many within Labour suspect there is something more sinister going on.
“This attakk faħxi u kodard on Soleil and Etoile is yet more evidence of a sustained smear campaign against the Muscats, the government and the whole of Malta,” wrote Labour MP Manuel Mallia on Facebook.
“The underage excuse is nonsense. As if anyone even remotely linked to this government has to obey the rules. I should know.”
He added that there was “plenty of proof” that PN and Instagram are one and the same.
“For example, the top left corner of the Instagram logo is blue. And what’s PN’s trademark colour? Q.E.D. right there.”
Chairman of the Valletta Cultural Agency Jason Micallef also waded in.
“Instagram is an anagram for ‘Arsing MTA’, which is an obvious dig at the Malta Tourism Authority, and by extension, Konrad Mizzi,” Micallef said.
“What’s more, the word ‘Instagram’ has six letters in common with ‘Ana Gomes’. And her full name – Ana Maria Rosa Martins Gomes – contains all the letters of ‘Instagram’.
Finance Minister Edward Scicluna also expressed doubts on whether most of Instagram’s 800 million users were even real.
“Most of the people on there, especially the so-called influencers, look like they’re made of plastic. I call bullshit,” he said.
