The Gozo ferry service has been cancelled forever, Gozo Channel announced this afternoon.
While the company had suspended the ferry service due to rough seas, it was expected that the service would resume once the winds died down later today.
However, the ferry operator has now said the cancellation will be permanent.
“Dude, have you seen the seen the size of those waves? We’re never putting a ship out there again. It’s not worth the risk,” a spokesperson for Gozo Channel Operatosr Ltd said, adding that from now on, Gozo Channel would be floating small paper boats on Chadwick Lakes instead.
Asked what would happen to Gozitans who needed to come to Malta for work, the spokesperson said:
“I guess they’ll just have to wait for the tunnel. In the meantime, can’t they ask Joseph Portelli to build them a new workplace in Gozo? He already seems to have claimed most of the island already.
“Look on the bright side – no more Maltese tourists clogging the roads and making a mess at Nadur Carnival.”
Meanwhile, the government has said that all Gozitans stranded in Malta would be placed indefinitely in an open centre in Cirkewwa.
“We can’t have them leading Maltese people astray with their strange foreign ways, Home Affairs Minister Michael Farrugia said.
