Bis-Serjetà managing editor Karl Stennienibarra has challenged Michelle Muscat to a race around the entire perimeter of the Mediterranean Sea.
The Prime Minister’s wife is due to undertake her annual long-distance swim for charity on Saturday, this time attempting a gruelling 14-km swim between Mellieħa and Ċirkewwa.
“Pff, child’s play. I swim a couple of laps around Gozo every morning before I head into the office [Bis-Serjetà’s headquarters are in Għarb],” Stennienibarra said.
“If Michelle wants a real challenge, we should race around the Mediterranean. All of it – starting in Malta, and then going clockwise until we end up back here.
“And while we’re at it, Michelle, Bis-Serjetà has been hearing reports of a couple of Cyclopses in Libya terrorising the local populace and stealing their livestock. You take one, and I’ll take the other, and whoever slays their one-eyed giant first gets to be King or Queen of Malta forever. I want my own Azerbaijani jewellery designer too… for my many girlfriends of course.”
Stennienibarra emphasised that the race would also be for charity.
“Because what’s the point of philanthropy if you don’t make a big song and dance about it?” he said.
Meanwhile Brikkuni singer Mario Vella said he hoped Muscat would accept Stennienibarra’s challenge.
“There must be millions of jellyfish floating around in the Med,” he said gleefully.
