Former Simpatiċi producer and actor Hermann Bonaci will host a show on ONE TV in which he physically assaults random strangers.
Earlier this week, Bonaci was conditionally discharged by the courts for punching and spitting on the author of a Facebook post that was critical of his restaurant, Il Cortile. Bonaci is also said to have yelled at the transgender man that he was really a woman.
“I want to prove that I don’t discriminate against people when I unleash my rage on them. It doesn’t matter if you’re transgender or you don’t like my delicious food. So I created a new show – Psikopatiċi – in which I walk down Republic Street in Valletta and beat up people of all colours, genders and nationalities. As compensation, I’ll give them a voucher for my restaurant. It’s all in good fun,” Bonaci told Bis-Serjetà.
ONE TV defended its decision to give a platform to Bonaci.
“I don’t see any problem with the Labour Party saying it supports the LGBTQ+ community but then letting a transphobe have his own show on its TV channel. If we start cancelling people, how will we make money from advertising?” said ONE Productions executive chairperson Jason Micallef.
Micallef also announced that Bonaci’s Simpatiċi co-star John Suda would be given a show in which he holds auditions for female actors.
