‘In truth, don’t we all wear a mask?’ says man trying to get into supermarket

A man who has not yet managed to obtain a face mask is trying to convince a store assistant to let him into the supermarket by saying that everyone wears a mask.

Philip Deguara, 30, is not being allowed into V&F supermarket in Mosta because he is not wearing a face mask, as stipulated by the health authorities in recent days.

“You claim I am not wearing a mask, but that could not be further from the truth. For do we not all wear a mask?” Deguara asked the store assistant who was preventing him from entering.

“You see, not all masks are made of cloth. On a basic level, we each wear several masks on any given day – that of the employee, the parent, the friend, the lover…

“And then there are those masks we use for fear of revealing our true selves to the world, lest the world discovers we are nought but empty husks. For instance, a man may wear the mask of a jester to hide his sadness, or that of a bully to hide his powerlessness,” Deguara continued, despite the store assistant remaining implacable.

“Look, I just wanted a packet of gummy bears,” he yelled before storming off.

“I would’ve let him in if he had cut the pseudo-philosophical bullshit and removed his wankellectual mask,” the store assistant told Bis-Serjetà.
