Jason Micallef has been chosen to replace Alan Deidun on the board of the Environment and Resource Authority.
Yesterday, marine biologist and activist Deidun announced he had stepped down from his role as a representative of environmental NGOs on the ERA board, which he called ‘toothless’ and subservient to the Planning Authority.
The authority moved swiftly to replace Deidun with Micallef, citing the latter’s former role as a gardening TV show presenter as relevant experience.
“Here at ERA, there’s no room for jellyfish-loving treehuggers who think they can make a difference. What we do need is people who don’t kick up a fuss when the guys at the PA – praise be unto them – stomp all over us. If anything, they should enjoy it,” ERA chairman Victor Axiak said.
“I saw the flower pots Jason put in Freedom Square recently and said to myself, ‘there’s a guy who understands what the environment is all about.'”
Micallef said he was excited to start working in his new role.
“Since I accepted the job, I’ve been doing weight exercises with my tongue so I can get as deep into the orifice of the construction industry as I possibly can,” he said.
