A fan of construction magnate Joseph Portelli is looking forward to staring at properties he will never afford.
J. Portelli Projects is the firm behind the 33-storey Mercury Tower skyscraper in St Julian’s.
“I can’t wait for the tower to be finished so I can gaze in wonder at all the shiny new luxury apartments,” said Ramon Deguara, 35, from Hamrun, who will never afford to purchase even the cheapest apartment in said tower even if he works for 100 years straight.
“Joseph Portelli is the best thing that’s ever happened to this country. One day I hope I’ll be lucky enough to have one of his projects on my doorstep. Or even better – that he’ll turn my home into an illegal concrete factory and let me live in the garbage room of Mercury Tower instead.”
In an interview with The Times, Portelli also revealed he will be involved in the development of the Jerma Palace site in Marsascala.
“I was delighted to hear the news. For too long, people in the South have been deprived of sprawling luxury properties to gawk at,” Deguara said.
The diehard Hamrun Spartans fan said he was also in favour of the planned yacht marina, also in Marsascala.
“Anyone who doesn’t agree with the marina is just jealous. When it’s finished, I hope to have the honour of swimming in the bilge water of a millionaire’s megayacht. God willing, as Lord Portelli would say.”
