‘Just one more supermarket and that’s it,’ Maltese developers promise

Developers have promised that the next supermarket they want to build will definitely be the last one.

“We know a lot of people think Malta has far too many supermarkets already, but if the Planning Authority give us permission to build another one on pristine land, it will definitely be the last, promise,” the developers said.

“You have our word – once the next two supermarkets are up and running, that’s it, no more,” they added.

“Another three supermarkets would just about cover the demand for groceries in Malta. Any more would be overkill and would result in an over-saturated market.

“Unless of course a fourth supermarket introduces more variety by selling store-brand products from a British supermarket. That would work.

“And just in case of an earthquake or something, we should probably built a fifth supermarket slightly further down the road from the last one. You can never be too careful.”

In a statement, new Planning Authority executive chairman Darth Vader said: “Fine, six more supermarkets , then we need to start constructing other types of buildings, like hypermarkets.”
