Bis-Serjetà managing editor Karl Stennienibarra has been offered asylum by the island of Comino.
Malta’s most serious journalist is facing the threat of legal action, after lawyers representing Yorgen Fenech complained to the court about a post on Bis-Serjetà’s Facebook page.
Comino, population 2, is an independent territory ruled by patriarch King Salvu Vella, and does not have an extradition treaty with Malta.
“As an avid reader of Bis-Serjetà, I would be honoured to offer sanctuary to Karl Stennienibarra. If any of those pompous gits from the mainland try to come for him, they will have to go through me, my dog and my AK-47,” the camouflage-wearing Vella said.
In a statement, Stennienibarra said:
“I thank King Salvu for his offer of protection, and gratefully accept. Due to the slow internet connection on Comino, I am now only able to post one article every month from my news cave in the Blue Lagoon. To fill the time in between, I will pay homage to the history of this beautiful island by embarking on a life of piracy, raiding the Gozo ferry and enslaving the population of Nadur.”
Now more than ever, Bis-Serjetà needs your help
As you may have heard, I really am facing the possibility of legal action. Bizarre, I know, but what can you do?
Since, at the time of writing, I have not been summoned by the court, I haven’t set up a crowdfund just yet. However, whatever happens, I still need your support to keep running this website, so I would greatly appreciate if you sign up to my page on Patreon – a funding site for artists, creatives and serious journalists – for as little as €2 a month. You can also choose to pay annually, and you can cancel at any time.
Thank you for your support.
