Keith Schembri wakes up from ‘horrible’ nightmare in which he faces justice

Keith Schembri has woken up from a nightmare in which he faces justice.

The former chief of staff to disgraced ex-prime minister Joseph Muscat awoke in a panic at 6am this morning in the master bedroom of his Mellieħa villa.

“No, no!” a sweat-drenched Schembri cried as he sat bolt upright in his bed, before his wife reassured him it was only a bad dream.

“Oh, thank God, thank God. Oh Josette, it was horrible,” he said before telling her what the nightmare was about.

According to Schembri, the dream started out pleasantly, with himself and Neville Gafa walking along the beach eating cocaine-flavoured ice cream and laughing about all the things they had got away with.

“Then all of a sudden the beach and the sky dissolved, and I was in a dark courtroom. Magistrate Montebello towered over me and said I was being charged with perjury.

“At first I thought it wasn’t that big a deal because it was my word against Yorgen’s, but then she said they’d found my mobile, even though I threw it in an incinerator.”

After Inspector Keith Arnaud read out all the damning messages between Schembri and Yorgen Fenech, as well as those exchanged with Joseph Muscat and Konrad Mizzi, the scene transformed again, this time into Corradino Correctional Facility, where Schembri discovered that Fenech was his cellmate.

“He told me there was no cocaine ice-cream in prison, and the only food was bay leaves.”

The nightmare ended with the chant of ‘justice for Daphne’ ringing in Schembri’s head.

“Honey you know those things will never happen. And I told you you should’ve listened to Adrian [Vella, the doctor Schembri shared with Yorgen Fenech] when he told you to stop eating cheese before bed,” his wife replied.
