A Maltese landlord is looking forward to completely ignoring the reforms to the property rental market announced by the government earlier today.
Landlord Keith Micallef currently rips off 22 foreign residents who rent several of his small and poorly furnished properties in the Sliema area.
“This laws includes various provisions that give my tenants more rights when it comes to minimum length of contracts and rent caps on annual rent increases, so I can’t wait to flagrantly disregard them,” Mr Micallef said.
When it was pointed out to Mr Micallef that he will face hefty fines if he fails to comply once the law comes into force next January, he replied:
“No problem my friend. My wife’s cousin’s husband works at the Housing Authority so he’ll be able to sort me out. In any case, it’s not like I’m renting to Maltese people so I’m not doing anything wrong.”
“Blockchain ta’ ras żobbi,” he added.
