Maltese people would prefer future generations to be uneducated than have to deal with school traffic, study shows

An overwhelming majority of Maltese people would prefer children to remain uneducated if it meant they never had to deal with school traffic again, a new study shows.

As children return to school this week, motorists in Malta must contend with an increased number of vehicles on the roads.

The study by Professor Imona Jetski from the American University of Malta showed that 90 per cent of people strongly agreed with the statement, ‘All places of learning – from primary schools to University – should permanently close down so I don’t have to spend a single extra minute in morning traffic.’

“As you can imagine, doing so would have a devastating effect on the country, as education rates among future generations would be even worse than they were in the Middle Ages. But apparently, people have so little faith in traffic management that a new Dark Age is preferable to the current situation,” Pro. Jetski said.

The survey also showed that 60 per cent of Maltese people would like to see Mater Dei Hospital demolished and turned into a car park, while 85 per cent of respondents said they believed only they should be allowed to drive at any given time.
