A Maltese dad has asked if Bis-Serjetà has a 10-cents-per-month tier on Patreon.
Patreon is a funding website where fans of Malta’s most serious news organisation can show their support by pledging a certain amount per month. The lowest tier is €2 a month, or a discounted €20 when patrons choose to pay annually.
“Don’t get me wrong – I’m a big fan of Bis-Serjetà. I read everything you write and recognise that you put a lot of work into it. But €2 a month is just way too expensive. If I saved that amount every year, in 50 years I’d have €1000. I mean, I would probably be dead by then, but I could still pass on the savings to my children,” said dad Charles Abdilla, 63, who compulsively switches off wall sockets when they aren’t being used, and turns the kettle off before it does it by itself.
“Maybe you could introduce a 10 cents-per-month tier. That sounds far more affordable. I could just about scrape €1.20 a year, although I’d have to sacrifice something else, like a chocolate bar. I hope you recognise what a huge deal that would be,” added Abdilla, who eats out-of-date frozen food so it doesn’t go to waste.
“Besides, can’t you get money from advertising? It’s not like Maltese businesses are totally averse to controversial content and difficult to deal with.”
