Maltese man at barbecue makes same sausage joke 10 times in a row

Karl Stennienibarra

A Maltese man at a barbecue has made the same sausage-based innuendo 10 times in a row without eliciting any laughter.

Johann Briffa, 33, from Mosta, was standing by the grill at a barbecue with friends on Golden Bay last Saturday, when he grabbed a pair of tongs and poked a pink Dewfresh sausage brought to the gathering by friend Clive Dimech. Briffa turned to Dimech and said, ‘Bro, qed immisslek iz-zalzett’ (bro, I’m touching your sausage’).

When Dimech, 32, from Qawra, failed to acknowledge the joke, Briffa repeated it a further three times, until his friend offered a forced smile.

Unsatisfied with Dimech’s reaction, Briffa tried the dirty pun on several other barbecue attendees. But despite poking the sausage harder, waving it around in the air, putting it close to his open mouth, and repeating ‘bro, qed immisslek iz-zalzett’ louder, none of them appeared to be impressed or amused by the implication he was touching their penis.

“That’s the last time we let him watch the grill. Frankly, I don’t know why we still invite him. But then again, at least he doesn’t call vegetarians gay anymore,” Dimech said.
