Man admitted to hospital after getting ‘Truth Hurts’ by Lizzo stuck in head

A Maltese man has been admitted to Mater Dei hospital after getting the song ‘Truth Hurts’ by Lizzo stuck in his head.

The 27-year-old man from Qawra is believed to have first encountered the viral pop song last week, after hearing it on his car radio while on the way to work.

Since then, he has been unable to get the song’s repetitive six-note melody and shouty chorus out of his head, and this morning walked into the hospital’s Accident and Emergency department.

“We just took a CT scan. Turns out that the patient 100 puh-cent has ‘Truth Hurts’ lodged in dat brain,” said Dr Christopher Mangion, who specialises in the removal of ear worms.

“This is the worst case of Stuck Song Syndrome I’ve encountered since the ‘Call Me Maybe’ epidemic of 2012. At first I was horrified – that’s the human in me. Then I decided to operate on him – that’s the surgeon in me.”

Dr Mangion added that, should Truth Hurts be successfully removed from the patient’s brain , he will need to avoid listening to the radio until the song disappears from local stations’ song rotations.

“I don’t understand why people listen to Maltese radio anyway – it’s mostly dogshit, especially Bay,” Dr Mangion said.

Meanwhile, critics of surgical intervention to remove ear worms insist that using homeopathic methods is more effective.

“To get rid of one annoyingly catchy song you simply need to administer a tiny amount of another terrible yet compelling song. A couple of bars of Señorita would have been enough in this case,” said Valerie Cassar Balala, a homeopathic practitioner.
