Man applies to adopt 500 children after hearing about €300 grant

A Maltese man has spent the entire day applying to adopt 500 children, after the government yesterday announced plans to give €300 to anyone who has a baby or adopts one.

Christian Camilleri, 34, from Zejtun, learned about the 2020 budget measure this morning, and has since been applying to several adoption agencies in Malta and abroad.

“I figured I’d need to act fast because loads of other people must’ve had the exact same idea. This is Malta, after all,” Camilleri told Bis-Serjetà.

“My first idea was to go out and impregnate loads of women. But then I realised that, even thought I’m highly virile and irresistible, I’d have to wait nine months for my investment to bear fruit, as it were.

“Then I settled on adoption. I should easily be able to source 500 children from around the world and make €150,000. Then, because I couldn’t possibly keep them all and because I hate children, I’ll sell them on to other people who want to cash in on this scheme, or raise a kid for some weird reason,” he said.

“If I end up with any leftover ugly ones that no one wants, I’ll just give them to the nuns so at least they can play with toys bought by Hugo’s son. Everyone wins.”
