The owner of the Mtaħleb Wildlife Park is planning to sell most of the zoo’s 21 tigers on the classifieds website Maltapark, after admitting that he could no longer take care of all the animals.
The number of tigers at the park has tripled since a deadly fire broke out in 2017.
“They shagged quite a bit over the summer,” park owner Chris Borg told Bis-Serjetà.
“While I can no longer afford to raise all of these magnificent creatures myself, I still believe that Malta is a great place to keep tigers and other large cats,” he said, citing the fact that tigers live in warm climates and Malta is warm.
“All the international zoos I contacted don’t want them, so I will shortly be putting them up on Maltapark and RUBS Puppy Love for anyone to buy,”
“Tigers actually make really good pets. It’s just like owning a cat – they spend most of the day asleep, love belly rubs and when you scratch under their chins. You just have to watch out for the five-inch claws and powerful jaws, that’s all.”
Mr Borg said a number of local politicians had already expressed interest in buying one or more of his tigers.
“Keith Schembri told me a tiger or two would go really well with the shark tank he already has, and Konrad Mizzi wants one because his wife practices Chinese medicine, although I’m not sure Chinese medicine would work on a tiger,” he said.
