No one to blame for anything – report

No one is to blame for anything bad that happens in Malta, according to a government report published today.

The report was commissioned after several people blamed the government for its poor handling of a Covid-19 spike that saw active cases jump from just three on 17th July to 648 today.

“After carefully analysing all the facts, the authors of this report conclude that, while the government rightfully took all the credit for controlling the spread of the coronavirus at the start, it cannot be blamed for the current explosion in cases, even though it’s the same people making the decisions,” the report states.

“It is no one’s fault that the tourism authority allowed Malta to be marketed as a party island, that mass events were permitted, that testing at the airport was not carried out, that enforcement was lax, or that it took three weeks to take decisive action after the spike started.

“Just like corruption, Daphne’s murder and buildings collapsing, these are just things that happen. Affarijiet li jiġru, m’hemmx x’tagħmel.”

The report also absolved powerful hoteliers of putting pressure on the government to pretend as if normality had returned.

“Hoteliers are actually really nice people who care about the well-being of the entire country, and certainly not just about their own pockets. Anyone who suggests otherwise is a big meanie, and also a Commie,” the report concluded.
