One good apple shouldn’t ruin a rotten money-making scam, says corrupt police officer

One good apple should not ruin a rotten, lucrative scam, according to a police officer who was involved in the overtime racket revealed last week.

The officer was referring to the whistleblower who uncovered the highly organised racket in the force’s traffic section, which has led to the arrest of 41 out of 50 officers, with more allegations coming to light seemingly every day.

“Is it fair that one goody-two-shoes officer ratted everyone out and deprived them of thousands of euros worth of ill-gotten tax-payers’ money?” asked the corrupt police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

“Now everyone will think we’re all snitches who care more about the public than ourselves, but this isn’t an accurate depiction of the Malta Police Force. The truth is that most of us are crooked. And some of us are racists and wife beaters too. You can’t generalise based on the righteous actions of one.”

The officer also condemned other colleagues who leaked information on the Daphne Caruana Galizia investigation to the media last year because they believed it was being deliberately sabotaged and held back from within.

“These officers forget our own motto: ‘Omertà dirige nos’. They’re a disgrace to the force and I hope they’re found soon and made an example of.”

On the other hand, the officer had fond words for former Police Commissioner Lawrence Cutajar, who resigned when Robert Abela became Prime Minister last month.

“We really miss him. It was like having a substitute teacher who let you do anything you want. We hope the new guy will be equally cool.”
