The Nationalist Party is at risk of tearing itself apart once again, this time over a disagreement on what costumes to wear to the Nadur Carnival in Gozo this weekend.
Nationalist MPs traditionally rent a farmhouse and wear disguises to the Nadur carnival, which is considered to be wilder and more politically incorrect than its Maltese counterpart.
While MPs loyal to party leader Adrian Delia want to go dressed as emojis, those who are against him want to go as the gang from the Netflix show Money Heist, wearing red jumpsuits and Salvador Dalí masks.
However, Delia has argued that wearing Money Heist costumes could be seen as a reference to government corruption, while the gang’s guns could be interpreted as a threat to take over the country.
“I don’t want to upset Labour. They’ve been really nice to me recently. They even let me have a drink in their każin in Mellieħa. No one else wants to drink with me these days,” Delia said.
The anti-Delia faction countered by saying emojis are lame, and that they would only accept if Delia goes as the poop emoji,
While Delia ally Clyde Puli suggested compromising and going as characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this idea was also shot down by the anti-Delia crowd.
“Our side is the only one that deserves to be associated with superheroes. Besides, Kristy Debono said she wanted to go as Wonder Woman, but she’s a DC character, not Marvel. No wonder the MGA never gave her any work to do,” said Karol Aquilina.
At the time of writing, the two factions had agreed to wear jumpsuits and have emoji faces instead of Dalí masks, a compromise described by one MP as “total shit but no one has the balls to take decisive action so screw it.”
