Police Commissioner begs Muscat to let him to do a press conference

Police Commissioner Lawrence Cutajar has begged Prime Minister Joseph Muscat to let him do a press conference on the latest developments in the Daphne Caruana Galizia’s murder case.

Since businessman Yorgen Fenech was arrested early on Wednesday morning, the Commissioner has been conspicuously absent, with the Prime Minister being the one to provide journalists with daily updates.

Now Cutajar has revealed that this is not his choice.

“It’s really unfair that Joseph isn’t allowing me to address the public, even if he does know more than I do,” Cutajar said from his Inter-themed bedroom, where he has been grounded since Wednesday.

“I know I was appointed mainly as a yes man and because I said Joseph had big balls, but I am also a good policeman. Last week, I singlehandedly solved the case of the littering man. And the week before that, I played a pivotal role in moving an illegally parked car from in front of someone’s garage.

“Please, I promise it won’t be a train wreck like the press conference we called right after Daphne’s murder. I’ve done English lessons and an online course in media handling since then,” he pleaded.

Cutajar added that deliveries of takeaway fried rabbit would only keep him happy for so long.

When asked for his response, the Prime Minister said he did not want to comment in case it jeopardised Cutajar’s grounding.
