Police uncover plot by Gozitans to blow up MV Nikolaos

The Malta Police Force has uncovered a plot by the people of Gozo to blow up the ferry MV Nikolaos while it is in dry dock.

On Tuesday, the Gozo Channel company announced the vessel would be out of commission for a month while it undergoes repairs.

Many Gozitans rejoiced at the news of the 37-year-old ferry’s absence and would prefer if it had made its last voyage.

According to one police source, an investigation revealed that a crack team of saboteurs have been training to ensure just that. The group of Gozitans was planning to break into the dry dock under the cover of night and plant magnetic bombs on the ship’s hull.

“To be honest I don’t know why they bothered buying high explosives through the dark web when shaking a bottle of Coke and opening it in the direction of the ferry would probably be enough to sink it,” the source said.

He added that the police were as yet undecided as to whether to allow the plot to go ahead.

“While it’s true that it’s very illegal to blow up a ship and we probably should stop them, that rusty old piece of Greek junk really is the worst, and belongs at the bottom of the sea as a diving attraction.

“And the same goes for its crew. If being a rude asshole were a crime, those guys would be locked up for life,” the source said.
