Pro-life Maltese man throws bag of kittens into the sea

A man who is against the legalisation of abortion in Malta has thrown a bag of newborn kittens into the sea.

Aaron Caruana, 47, from Qrendi, said his pet cat had become unexpectedly pregnant, and last week gave birth to a litter of four kittens.

“It must have been one of the stray cats that live in the field next to my house. Her getting pregnant was very inconvenient for me. I couldn’t afford to keep four other cats, so I asked some friends and family members if they’d like to have them,” Caruana told Bis-Serjetà.

“But no one could take them, so I did what anyone would do. I placed them in a bin bag, drove to Wied iz-Zurrieq and -trying hard to ignore their desperate mewling – threw them off the cliffs into the sea.”

Caruana denied this was a case of animal cruelty.

“Trust me, it was for the best. If I had let them live in the street, who knows what might have happened to them? They might have starved, or got runover. Or someone might have taken them and abused them. I made this decision out of love.

“And ultimately, I believe I have the right to choose what happens to my cat and her offspring.”

Caruana is an active member of the anti-choice Facebook group ‘Abortion in Malta – not in my name’.

“Abortion is murder, no question about it. Life is precious and must be protected no matter what. Any woman who kills her own baby must face the consequences.”

He is also a member of several anti-immigration groups.

“Maybe the immigrants find them and they have something to eat, eh?” he chuckled.
