An absolute nut job has suggested playing a 5-a-side football game during a heatwave.
John Dimech, 30, from Imsida, made the ludicrous suggestion this afternoon on a WhatsApp group he shares with his friends.
“Aw guys, 5 aside (sic) @ Infetti il-lejla?” Dimech wrote at 12:47pm, prompting a wave of mostly incredulous responses from other group members, who pointed out that the temperature this evening would still be hovering around 30 degrees.
“What kind of sadomasochistic insanity is this?” replied Matthew Bonello.
Another friend, 28-year-old James Muscat observed that none of the people in the group had played football in almost two years, and would subsequently be exhausted after five minutes of play.
“Why don’t we have a FIFA tournament instead?” suggested 31-year-old Nathan Brincat, prompting Dimech to call him a pussy.
The only person in the group who was in favour of playing was 30-year-old Leonard Ganado. However, other group members noted that he had a conflict of interest, given that he always played in goal and would therefore not be required to run around sweating his balls off.
During the heated exchange, Dimech did not rule out the possibility of asking other friends from outside the group to join him, causing various other members to cast doubt on the lunatic’s ability to do so, not only because of the heat but also because he had no other friends.
